About the Repository

The Open Educational Resources Repository of the Nigeria Open Schooling Project collates resources that have been developed and shared in various ways during the ongoing discussion between the Universal Basic Education Commission and the Commonwealth of Learning about ways to address the challenge of out-of-school children in Nigeria.

The repository provides examples of resources that have proved useful to teachers involved in remote and blended teaching during the recent school closures, whether due to COVID or other factors such as storms, volcanic eruptions, tsunamis, droughts or other challenges. It also contains examples of curriculum-based OER that were developed during and after a training workshop held in Abuja in February 2020.

A national repository creates a space to share resources that are tailored specifically to the school curriculum and learning context of a country. We believe that if contextualised resources are made available to teachers in Nigeria through an online repository, then teachers will have greater access to quality resources. If teachers are trained in ODFL and OER, then they will have improved knowledge and skills in OER and ODFL. If teachers who are trained then are also provided access to additional OER, and provided guidance, with support of UBEC and the SUBEBS, on using the OER repository, including uploading their own OER, then teachers will integrate OER and ODFL approaches into their teaching and learning. This will in turn contribute to increased access to high quality resources for both learners and teachers in Nigeria. Such resources can be used for a variety of purposes, for example for remote, blended and open schooling provision.
